Point Pleasant Beach scored just before halftime, but the Garnet Gulls were unable to hold off Middlesex on Saturday, falling 14-6 in a nonconference football game.
The Garnet Gulls (1-1), who rallied to beat Asbury Park in their season opener, got a touchdown with 31 seconds left from Joe Wegrzyniak.
But Middlesex scored early in the second half on a quarterback keeper by A.J. Abate to tie the game at 6, and a big play by Matt Hodes, who broke through the Gulls’ defense for a 70-yard touchdown late in the third quarter turned out to be the winning score.
