Get Rid Of Point Beach, Seaside Heights? NJ Has Plan To Do That

Could we see some of the Jersey Shore's most popular beach towns go bye-bye?

A plan that's connected to New Jersey lawmakers could do just that. And they're towns that have been around more than a century, communities that have provided leisure and family fun for many, many years.

And some of those towns are very, very well known, whose population can double or triple during the busy summer season and need their own police force to control the partying atmosphere (see list below).

Perhaps most notable among them are Point Pleasant Beach and Seaside Heights, but there are plenty of them in the Jersey Shore counties of Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic and Cape May – 60, actually – that could face extinction.

"Not so fast!" Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Stephen Reid told Patch when he heard about the plan. "No one eliminates Point Pleasant Beach. Point Pleasant Beach is a great town with no burden to the state."

Patch obtained a copy of the letter detailing the potentially dramatic policy changes proposed by the "Economic and Fiscal Policy Working Group," a panel put together by Senate President Steve Sweeney and other lawmakers.
