Girl, 14, Critically Hurt In Point Pleasant Boro Hit-And-Run
UPDATE: A search is underway after a driver struck a girl while she rode a bicycle and then carried her on the hood of the car, police said.
The local community was coming to grips with a critically injured 14-year-old girl in Point Pleasant Boro on Friday and Saturday, nearly 2 days after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver who carried her on the hood of the car before fleeing, police said.
The girl's full name hasn't been revealed, but a GoFundMe page was set up for her and identified the teen by only her first name, Emma-Mae. More than $7,000 had been raised for her by late Friday.

"She is in ICU with severe injuries and has a very long road to recovery ahead of her," the page said. "Please help me raise money to help her family with all the expenses they will be incurring from this horrible accident. Any amount is appreciated."
The incident happened at approximately 10:31 p.m. on Thursday when the Point Pleasant Boro Police Department responded to the area of Route 88 and Sunset Avenue on a report of a hit-and-run, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The preliminary investigation found that a black sedan traveling eastbound on Route 88 struck the 14-year-old bicyclist as she attempted to cross Route 88, according to the OCPO.
The eastbound vehicle struck the bicyclist as she traveled in a north-to-southbound direction, approximately 150 feet east of the Route 88 and Sunset Avenue intersection. according to the OCPO.
The bicyclist was struck by the front passenger portion of the vehicle, which caused her to roll onto the windshield and hood of the vehicle, the OCPO said.
The vehicle’s driver continued driving after the impact, carrying the girl on the vehicle hood for a distance before she was thrown from of the vehicle, the OCPO said.
The black sedan then continued eastbound on Route 88 and fled the scene. The bicyclist was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center where she is currently listed in critical condition.
The suspect vehicle possibly sustained damage to the front-end and windshield.
