Hoffman's Ice Cream Offers Sweet Reward To Blood Donors In Point Beach

The ice cream shop will be offering a "Pint for a Pint," giving ice cream to blood donors at 4 donation events, starting Thursday.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — In an effort to help boost blood donations, Hoffman's Ice Cream is partnering with New Jersey Blood Services on four blood drives, starting Thursday.

The “Pint for a Pint” blood drives are scheduled for Hoffman's locations in Point Pleasant Beach and in Spring Lake, with participants receiving a coupon for a free pint of ice cream.

Hoffman’s Ice Cream has been partnering with New Jersey Blood Services since 2011 but had to suspend the drives for the last two years because of the coronavirus pandemic.

New Jersey Blood Services said there is a blood emergency last month due to what it calls "an alarming drop in blood donations."

One blood donation has the ability to save up to three lives, officials said.

The Point Pleasant Beach Hoffman’s Ice Cream at 800 Richmond Ave. will host drives on Thursday and on Aug. 24 from 12:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Point Pleasant Beach. On July 28 and Aug. 30, the Hoffman's at 569 Church St. in Spring Lake will host drives from 12:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The blood drives will be in one of the service's ]blood mobiles. Masks are required to donate.

It takes one hour to donate and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.
