I have to admit, I break the law on a pretty regular basis. I walk Kona on the beaches of Bay Head and Point Pleasant, Always on a leash and ALWAYS armed with poop bags.
I know that Kona is a barking machine when she sees other dogs and sometimes gulls and she will run after them all. That is why I keep her leashed.
Some people...ok, a lot of people like to let their dogs run loose. I even know a house that lets their dog out and it runs several houses up to the beach, by itself and runs up and down the beach, by itself, did I say that already? No one to make sure walkers, children, fishermen are safe from this dog. It is a nice enough dog.... but I have seen people bitten by some of the nicest pets out there.
I wonder who picks up that nice dog's poop? Yeah, it's not the dog owner.
Many of the people who walk their dogs and let them run free really don't know where their companion has left a land mine and certainly have no intention of looking for it.
Maybe in the winter they think that nobody is laying on the beach, no kids to step in a pile, no strangers being jumped on or scared by a strange dog.
If they want to release their dogs for a run, take them to the Dog Beach in Manasquan or the County dog park where they can run free and only see people and dogs who like to have a strange mutt jump on them.
OK, last part of this rant.....Why in hell do the people who walk their dogs on the beach, sidewalks or streets pick up the poop in a plastic bag and then drop the bag when they think no one is looking.
Kona and I have walked every day for about six years, obviously more now that I'm retired, and every day up near the beach I see a poop bag discarded on the curb, sidewalk or sand. Trust me, everywhere we walk, there are municipal garbage cans near the beach entrances.
