Manasquan Inlet Tug-Of-War Welcoming Individuals, Teams For 2022

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Registration has opened for the 2022 Manasquan Inlet Tug of War, and there's a new twist on this year's competition: It's open to the general public.

The event, which is scheduled for Oct. 1, has grown so much since it debuted in 2018 that the organizers are welcoming anyone to join the competition in the series of tugs-of-war across the nearly 500-foot wide Manasquan Inlet.

"We’ve received so many inquiries from fans that were looking to participate in a tug of war on their own that we wanted to open this up to the general public this year," said Geoff Brown, event chairman. "Last year’s event came down to the final heat and we can’t wait for October 1st this year."

"This event has turned into one of the best community events around the Jersey Shore," said Rich Hope, chief marketing officer for Jersey Mike’s, which is sponsoring the event. "Jersey Mike’s is honored to be a part in a unique and fun day that brings people together on both sides of the Inlet and from across the Jersey Shore community."

The tug-of-war raises money for the recreation departments in Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach, along with the Make-a-Wish Foundation of New Jersey.

It includes festivals on both sides of the inlet that feature music, food and drink vendors, craft vendors and more.

The rope used for the event is equipped with a quick disconnect to accommodate emergencies and the flow of boat traffic, and the Brielle and Manasquan fire departments assist with the removal and securing of the rope.

People interested in participating can register as individuals, who will then be assigned to a team, or as a full team of 25. Participation includes a T-shirt and the opportunity to raise additional funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of New Jersey.

Registration can be completed online and is $25 per person.
