Monmouth County…The Mental Health Association of Monmouth County (MHA) has received a timely and generous donation from the Middletown High School South’s Spanish Honor Society in support of a new English as a Second Language (ESL) Class initiative at its Red Bank Resource Network (RBRN). Valerie Barney, World Languages Teacher and Advisor to the Spanish Honor Society at Middletown South, coordinated the efforts to meet the needs of RBRN and the community the agency serves. The donated supplies provided vital classroom materials for the students and volunteer teachers of the first-ever ESL class hosted on site, including a much-needed dry erase board and stand, which helped to transition the conference room of RBRN into a classroom.
The class that is supported by this donation is a new, free eight week ESL program for Red Bank Regional High School students, and will take place weekly from March-May 2016. It is being hosted in partnership with The Source at Red Bank Regional High School to provide a safe, supportive environment in the community for students to practice communication and support the development of English language skills during after school hours. Two community volunteers are leading the class, with lead teacher Gianna Cusanelli, and assistant teacher, Luke Roskowinski donating their time and expertise.
