Missing Boater ID'd As Search Resumes Off Manasquan Inlet

New Jersey State Police said searchers are still trying to find the body of the missing man; the stern of the boat was located Sunday.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — The search for a Brick Township man who has been missing after a boat capsized in Manasquan Inlet has resumed Monday, New Jersey State Police said.

The missing boater has been identified as Derek Narby, 21, of Brick, Sgt. Philip Curry said Monday.

"He has not been located at this time," Curry said.

The stern of the 31-foot boat was located in about 30 feet of water off the north jetty of Manasquan Inlet on Sunday, Curry said, and the search for Narby resumed Monday morning.

The 31-foot boat capsized Thursday night after being hit by “large seas,” state police said Friday.

Narby was on board with his father and brother; Manasquan Mayor Edward Donovan told the Asbury Park Press on Friday that the father and one son had been rescued.

News 12 New Jersey reported the waves at Manasquan Inlet were very strong and had pounded the boat at the inlet Thursday night when it capsized. Video published by News 12 showed a life raft floating in the ocean off the inlet. News 12 New Jersey reported a 10-foot wave was recorded by a nearby buoy.
