Nearly 2K Lose Power In Point Pleasant After Storms (UPDATE)

More than 13,000 people lost power (see list of towns below) as storms battered New Jersey on Sunday night.

At 8:30 p.m., Point Pleasant Boro, with 1,536 outages, and Point Pleasant Beach, with 321 outages, were among the New Jersey towns that had the most power losses.

By 10 p.m., 231 still were without power in Point Pleasant Boro and 173 in Point Pleasant Beach.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued in parts of New Jersey on Sunday night. Winds as strong as 60 mph and quarter-size hail were expected.

The National Weather Service had also issued a hazardous weather outlook, an excessive heat warning and a flash flood watch for the next 24 hours, saying showers and thunderstorms were forecast to bring periods of heavy rain to New Jersey from Sunday night into Monday night

Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected to be common, with local amounts up to 3 to 4 inches possible (see forecast below).
