Not Everybody's Happy With Dog Ban On Point Beach Boardwalk

With summer over, the pet-friendly reminder didn't make some people happy.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH – Point Pleasant Beach police took the time to remind residents this week that dogs are not allowed on the boardwalk at any time of the year.

But the reminder didn't make some people happy.

Point Pleasant Beach police's reminder drew some reaction on its Facebook page, including this:

"I wish they would realize that dogs are by far better than some of the patrons that walk the boards and sun on the beach!"

Another person spoke to the issue of poor human behavior on the boardwalk – particularly among those who leave bars a little too late.

"Who regulates most of the humans lol," another person said.

That drew this reaction: "Discrimination against dogs it's stupid."

Another person suggested heading up to Asbury Park:

"I head up to Asbury with my 5 lb dog... very dog friendly... great for the local businesses especially the outdoor cafe’s... lots of business from us out of towners... yay Asbury!!"

Another person agreed, and said the law needs better enforcement.

"I saw 5 dogs on boardwalk Saturday night. I was so surprised, the police said nothing."

Another person had a solution:

"Maybe new rules can be introduced. Allowing dogs on boards with special registration. Like the county off-leash parks require. Those caught without or those found not to be cleaning up after their dogs would be fined heavily.

"We really should become more dog friendly in Point Beach."
