Point Pleasant Beach Councilman Paul Kanitra says he's running against Stephen Reid for the GOP nomination for mayor, providing a video in which he said the incumbent is "out of touch" with constituents.

In a video announcing his candidacy, Kanitra criticized Reid for running for Assembly, saying Point Pleasant Beach "should be no one's consolation prize." Reid dropped out of that race this week when he failed to secure the GOP nomation for the 10th District.

Kanitra said he's been at odds with Reid because he hasn't been a rubber stamp, noting that he voted to keep the annual Elk's fundraiser in its location. He also has criticized Reid for having an alleged conflict of interest between his government position and his lobbying interests.
