A power outage at Memorial Middle School led to an early dismissal on Wednesday, the school district said.

POINT PLEASANT BORO – A power outage at Memorial Middle School led to an early dismissal on Wednesday, the school district said.

School officials said the power went out around 8 a.m. There were small little fires discovered on the school's roof, but Superintendent Vincent Smith said they didn't have anything to do with the outage.

Students were evacuated temporarily to the high school while the fires were put out, Smith said.

The students were let out at 11:30 a.m. Fewer than five outages were reported in the town at the time.

Busing students were supposed to be picked up in front of the high school auditorium. All other students were supposed to be dismissed from there.

These are the precautionary measures the school district says it needs to take to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
