Point Boro School Budget Up Slightly This Year
Board of Education will vote on budget at April 25 board meeting.

POINT PLEASANT — Residents here will pay an extra $51 a year in Point Pleasant school taxes for a home assessed at the borough average of $381,600, according to the Ocean Star.
The Point Pleasant Board of Education recently introduced a $42,252,758 budget for the 2016-17 school year, up from $41,219,687 from last year.
Superintendent Vincent Smith and board members are planning a number of district upgrades. They include digital security cameras, the installation of a boiler at the Nellie F. Bennett School, replacing classroom lights, locker upgrades at Memorial Middle School, upgrades to gym locker showers at the high school and and motorized bleachers in the high school gym.

The proposed budget, which includes a tax levy of $32,707,297 and a debt service tax levy of $1,886,711, will be voted on at the April 25 BOE business meeting.
School officials also plan to convert the varsity football field to turf, a long-time district goal, Smith said.

"After years of saving and building up our capital reserves, which can only be used to fund capital projects, we are finally able to make this goal a reality," he said.
