Point Boro Schools Plan 2 Percent Tax Hike: What Do You Think?

Point Pleasant Boro Schools have introduced a budget that includes a proposed 2 percent hike in property taxes.

The Board of Education, which presented its 2014-2015 school year plan this past week, said the tax increase on the average-assessed home in town would be $86. The total school budget amount for 2014-2015 would be $40,216,798, which is $129,650 less than last year’s budget, according to The Star-News.

Superintendent Vincent Smith talked about new and current initiatives they are using to help improve the district, including professional development, curriculum, facility improvements and safety upgrades, according to The Star-News.

The district noted it also went out to referendum in December 2013 to replace the roof at Nellie Bennet Elementary School, Memorial Middle School and high school, according to The Star-News.
