Point Boro Students Score High On Advanced Placement Exams
Forty-six students recognized for earning Advanced Placement Scholar Awards by College Board

Hard work has paid off for 46 students in Point Pleasant Borough High School.
District officials recently announced that the students all earned Advanced Placement Scholar Awards by the College Board for the exams administered in the spring of 2014, district spokesperson Jacqueline Goss said.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) offers students the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams.

“The 46 student who have earned awards of distinction from the College Board include nine current students and 35 members of Point Pleasant Borough High School’s Class of 2014,” said School Principal Kurt Karcich. “This is a record number of annual AP Scholars for our high school, beating last year’s record of 34.”
Principal Karcich said the increased number of AP Scholars reflects the administration’s efforts to increase rigor in the high school’s academic program.

“This increased participation coupled with our district’s high-level expectations for student engagement and performance has resulted in unprecedented achievement among our students,” he said recently.
College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams. Point Pleasant Borough High School’s 46 AP Scholars earned recognition for four separate levels of AP achievement!
AP Scholars
Nineteen students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of 3 or higher. The AP Scholars are:
Brian Byington; Lauren Calderella; Rachel Cusack; Michael Dunham; Kayla Fattell; Samuel Feldman; Gillian Gude; Emily Henn; Shannon Kelly; Samantha Lassen; Madison Martin; Evan McHugh; Anna Mildorf; Allison Moran; Benjamin Norkus; Raelyn Schnappauf; Emily Smith; and Julie Welde.
AP Scholar with Honor
Ten Boro students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are:
John Ball; Philip Binaco; Alexandra Blisnuk; William Brewer; Jamieson Gilmore; Daniel Gonella; Matthew Lafalce; Olivia Marx; Elise Petronzio; and Anne Skimmons.
AP Scholar with Distinction
Seventeen students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are:
Elizabeth Brennan; Colleen Callander; Liam Collins; Sarah Conboy; Nicholas Draper; Angelo Falabella; Mary Fitzgerald; Samuel Haber; Casey Johnston; Ashley Kavanagh; Thomas Kiesel; Thomas Martin; Evan Martz; Rachel Menzel; Evan O’Leary; Kiera O’Gorman; and Eileen Parks.
National AP Scholar
Additionally, five students qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average score of 4 or higher on a five-point scale on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams. These students are:
Samuel Haber; Casey Johnston; Thomas Martin; Evan Martz; and Eileen Parks.
“This group of students exemplify the level of achievement that is possible when you combine, hard work, commitment and dedication with a Point Pleasant Borough Schools’ education,” said Superintendent Vincent S. Smith.
