The part-time police officers would have essential duties and responsibilities such as: school security, school traffic enforcement, court security, traffic enforcement details and various others duties.

"While it was clear that all feel strongly that our schools are safe and secure, the additional step of adding two more police officers assigned directly to our schools has been implemented," the letter said. "Starting today (March 2), each of the four public schools within the borough of Point Pleasant will have a dedicated police officer assigned to them throughout the school day."
In a joint letter signed by the police, the school district and the mayor, the town said it's making the decision after meetings that assessed the schools' security.

"In today's ever-changing world, there is always room to evolve and continue to look at ways to increase security while still maintaining a positive school environment," the letter said.
The decision also follows an incident last month when a possible security threat prompted a temporary shelter-in-place at Memorial School.
