Point Pleasant Couple Injured In Head-On Crash On Route 35

The driver of the other vehicle, a Georgia man, has been charged with reckless driving and driving on a suspended license, Wall police said.

WALL, NJ — Two Point Pleasant residents were injured Saturday in a head-on crash on Route 35 where a Georgia man is facing charges, Wall Township police said.

The Point Pleasant residents, a 39-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were in a 2023 Mazda CX3 that was hit by a 2011 Nissan Altima driven by Mitchell G. Holley, 34, of Linburn, Ga., Wall police said.

Holley was driving south on Route 35 about 6:45 p.m. Saturday when he crossed into the northbound lane, hitting the Mazda near 18th Avenue, police said. All three had to be extricated from their cars, police said.

All three were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, police said.

Holley was issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving and driving while suspended, and police said criminal charges are pending the results of toxicology tests.

Highway 35 from Wall Church Road to 18th Avenue was shut down in both directions for about 90 minutes while emergency crews conducted extrication and medical treatment and crash investigators processed the scene, police said.

The crash remains under investigation by Wall Township police. Anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to call Patrolman Hunter Manning or Capt. Chad Clark at 732- 449-4500.

Fire and rescue crews from West Belmar Fire Department, Glendola Fire Department and South Wall Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, as well as emergency medical crews from Wall Township Police EMS, Belmar EMS and paramedics from Hackensack Meridian.
