Point Pleasant Mayor, Council Promise Continued Improvements For Town

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — Robert Sabosik was sworn into office for his third term as mayor of Point Pleasant on Monday, and promised to keep the borough a place where people want to live.

The borough's reorganization meeting on Monday also included the swearing-in of council members Charlene Archer and Joseph Furmato Jr., who ran for re-election unopposed.

Councilwoman Valerie Coulson was chosen to serve as council president for 2023, and the council reappointed Jerry Dasti as the borough attorney.

"I'd like to thank the voters for having the faith to re-elect me," Sabosik said. "We have bigger and better in store for the borough for my third term."

Sabosik said he and Archer and Furmato logged more than 50 miles walking through the borough talking to residents during the campaign.

"We learned a lot, and we listened a lot," Sabosik said, adding that he wants to maintain a positive atmosphere in the borough that creates a welcoming feeling for the town.

"It's a culture that will be protected by this mayor and this council," he said, one that is "inclusive, respectful and dedicated" to the residents.

Sabosik made no mention of Councilman William Borowsky, whom he defeated in the election. Borowsky, a longtime Republican who ran as an independent, received 2,863 votes while Sabosik received 4,982.

Borowsky, who was absent from the meeting, was re-elected to the council in 2021, still has two years remaining on his council term. Also absent was councilman John Wisniewski.

Sabosik said the borough is continuing the planning for the new recreation center, with efforts to keep children in the school while the work is done, and said there are plans for more sidewalk and road improvements in the months ahead.
