Point Pleasant Police Offer Bike Safety Rodeo For Kids

POINT PLEASANT, NJ — The Point Pleasant Borough Police Department will hold a bicycle rodeo to raise awareness of bicycle safety on May 15, the police department announced.

The free event runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with 30-minute presentations on the half-hour and the hour, and registration is required. It is open to Point Pleasant residents only and will be held at the basketball courts at Nellie Bennett Elementary School.

Parents must accompany their children, who must have a working bicycle and a bicycle helmet.

The event will address proper bicycle safety and include checks of their bicycles and helmets for safety issues, and kids will be able to try out the police department's bicycle road course.

A representative from the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Trauma Injury Prevention Unit will give a brief presentation regarding helmet safety.

To register for the event, send an email with "Bike Rodeo" in the subject line with your child's name and age, and your preferred time along with an alternate time, to the Community Policing Unit at Gcapoano@ptboropd.com or JJohnson@ptboropd.com.

No walk-ins will be accepted. If bad weather forces them to postpone, registered attendees will be notified directly by email, police said.
