A state project continues to cause lane closures on Route 35 between Point Pleasant Beach and Brielle, officials say.

The state Department of Transportation has closed one lane on Route 35 in each direction, extending over the Veterans of All Wars drawbridge over Manasquan River.

The lane closures are part of a project to rehabilitate the Route 35 bridge over Ashley Avenue in Brielle.

Work includes the installation of barrier curb on the southbound shoulder, construction of a temporary pedestrian detour, and installation of protective shielding. The contractor closed one lane in each direction as the project to repair the bridge advances, DOT officials say.

The $6.3 million dollar federally-funded project will replace the deck, parapets, sidewalk, and other improvements to the superstructure, substructure, lighting, and approaches to the bridge.
