Scammers Posing As Point Pleasant Beach Water Employees

If you get a call claiming your bill is past due and threatening shut-off, it's a scam, police said.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Point Pleasant Beach police are warning residents about a scam that has affected several businesses in the borough.

The businesses are receiving phone calls from someone who identifies themselves as a borough employee, then tells the person who answered the phone that the water or utility bill is overdue and needs to be paid immediately or the town is going to shut the water off.

The suspect then requests a credit card number for payment.
