Sea Turtles Released In Point Pleasant Beach After Rehabilitation

The Sea Turtle Recovery organization set free eight turtles that had been rehabilitated from injuries, and offered info on how to help.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Sea turtles that were rehabilitated at Turtle Back Zoo were returned to the wild on the beach in Point Pleasant Beach.

The turtles, which had been in the care of professionals at Turtle Back Zoo, were released back into the ocean in front of Jenkinson's Aquarium on Tuesday. Sea Turtle Recovery, which handled the release, said the turtles — Princess, Donashello, Slater, Titan, Petunia, Willow, Stone, and Cortez — were ready to return to the ocean after treatment. The turtles were a mix of loggerhead and Kemp's Ridley sea turtles.

The release had been planned earlier, but fluctuating water temperatures forced the rescue to push the release back.

At least one of the turtles had a satellite tag attached to its shell to help scientists gather information on the turtles' migration and feeding activities.

Video of the release is below. Additional videos are planned for release in October that will show the Sea Turtle Recovery team's releases.
