Seal Rescued In Point Pleasant Beach Is Back In Ocean

The seal had a minor laceration and was not attacked by a shark.

The seal that was found on the sands of Point Pleasant Beach earlier in April is back in the ocean.

The seal that was found on April 7 had a minor laceration and was not attacked by a shark, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine told Patch on Wednesday.

The seal was featured on the Barnegat Bay Island, NJ Facebook page earlier this month when a volunteer for the MMSC said he received a call about the injured animal at Point Pleasant Beach on April 7.

"As a volunteer for the Marine Mammal Stranding Center we get these calls and go to evaluate the mammal, as the eyes of the MMSC," according to the volunteer.

This 45-pound pup had a wound on her underside that needed attention attention before being released back into the ocean.

"A lot of nice people walked by the seal and were all very respectful of the seal and our responsibility to 'babysit,' until the MMSC came to pick her up."

"There was one exception: A curious seagull kept coming back and looking at the seal as if to say, 'What's that thing, Are you OK?' "
