Store Closings, More Than 1,600 Layoffs In NJ Coming Soon

NEW JERSEY – More layoffs and store closings are coming to New Jersey very soon.

A supermarket is closing three New Jersey stores while a popular pharamacy that has nearly 160 locations in New Jersey has announced it's shutting many sites across the country.

The news comes as several New Jersey companies have announced that more than 1,600 people will lose their jobs in the next two months (see lists below).

Acme Markets is reportedly closing three of its supermarkets in New Jersey. They include Woodcliff Lake, Elmwood Park and Weehawken. Read more: Acme To Close More Bergen County Locations: Report

The company that's shutting down 20o stores, Walgreens, has 158 locations in New Jersey but has not disclosed what sites will begin shutting down (see list of New Jersey locations below).

Also, Western Union's plan to chop 10 percent of its workforce as part of a cost-reduction effort could impact the money transfer giant's Montvale location, according to a report. Read more: Montvale Workers Could Be Impacted By Western Union Layoffs

Here are the companies that announced layoffs:

• XPO Logistics, Swedesboro, Aug. 16: 269. The company has reportedly been working to centralize Comcast's supply chain management.
• WSFS Bank, Burlington, Aug. 30: 14. WSFS Bank is laying off former Beneficial Bank employees months after a $2.1 billion acquisition closed, according to The Philadelphia Business Journal.
• HMSHost, Trenton, Sept. 6: 308. The company operates service areas along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
• First Student, Hampton, Sept. 15: 95
• Futurewei Technologies, Inc., Bridgewater, Sept. 23 49
• Avenue Stores, LLC, Rochelle Park, Sept. 30: 152. The New York Post says the retailer has 60 days to find a buyer or all of its stores will close.
• Prime Flight Aviation Services, Inc., Newark, Oct. 8 735. Hundreds of workers who clean airplane cabins and lavatories for United Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport will lose their jobs this fall, according to nj.com.
