Storms Possible In NJ Weather Forecast

Storms are in the New Jersey weather forecast. Here's what you should expect as New Year's Eve approaches.

NEW JERSEY – Be careful out there. The next five days may be risky to drivers in New Jersey, and not just because of New Year's Eve.

A "strong" system is expected to soak New Jersey a bit over the next few days, and even some snow could fall in some areas of the state as New Year's Day approaches, according to the National Weather Service.

The worst of the weather could arrive on Sunday night and Monday morning, when rain is expected to soak the entire state, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is expected to fall fairly consistently in North Jersey beginning on Sunday night after 3 p.m. until Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Elsewhere, the rain is expected to taper off by Monday night.

Some snow could impact parts of North Jersey on the morning of New Year's Eve, and then at night, according to the NWS. Here is where it's supposed to fall on Tuesday night:

Here is the forecast:

  • Friday afternoon: Cloudy, with a high near 51. West wind around 8 mph.
  • Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. Northwest wind around 8 mph.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph.
  • Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Light northwest wind.
  • Sunday: Rain likely, mainly after 4 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 46. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Sunday night: Rain. Low around 38. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Monday: Rain. High near 45. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
  • Monday night: A chance of rain showers before 4am, then a chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
  • Tuesday: A chance of snow showers in North Jersey before 7 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
  • Tuesday night (New Year's Eve): Partly cloudy, with a low around 30, with snow and rain possible in North Jersey.
