Teacher Had Knife In Desk, Lives In Point Pleasant Beach, Prosecutor Says

The man teaches and coaches sports in a Monmouth County school district.

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — A teacher who lives in Point Pleasant Beach has been arrested after authorities found a large knife in his desk at school, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday.

Kevin J. Hasbrouck, 36, was charged with possession of an illegal weapon, a fourth-degree offense, Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said.

The large stainless steel knife was discovered in Hasbrouck's desk at Neptune Middle School after police were called to the school on Feb. 3 for a weapons investigation, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities did not give any other details about who reported the knife.

Hasbrouck is a social studies teacher at Neptune Middle School and is the bowling coach at Neptune High School and an assistant boys' varsity baseball coach at Shore Regional High School in West Long Branch.
