Here is what happened to Antonella Barba after the "American Idol" fame, all the way to when she was found with enough fentanyl to kill 200,000 people this past year:

  • Barba seemingly performed well after singing at her audition, and even earned praise from Simon Cowell, the toughest of the "American Idol" judges, afterward. She ultimately sang three songs before she was eliminated.
  • When the American Idol attempt fizzled, Barba did enough to make it on her own – or so it appeared – and even put a video of a song that she called "Jersey Girl" a decade ago.
  • Ultimately, Barba seemed to succeed enough that she even sang before a Los Angeles Clippers basketball game and, then, before a Los Angeles Dodgers game in 2016.
  • Barba was active on social media right up until her arrest in October 2018, when she went dark on Twitter. Her last Instagram post happened during the summer of 2018 when she celebrated her appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" with other "Idol" stars.
  • In October 2018, Barba was allegedly directed by Justin Michael Isaac, considered a ringleader in the drug conspiracy, to deliver approximately 830.8 grams of fentanyl, or almost two pounds.
  • The indictment says Barba, who has a felony marijuana case pending in Kansas, was one of several members of a drug conspiracy that was active from at least late 2017 through the fall of 2018, according to the Virginia Pilot.
  • Barba used a telephone in "causing, committing and facilitating the commission of an act constituting a felony violation," according to the indictment.
  • The indictment says an unnamed member of the conspiracy used an apartment on Granby Street in the Norfolk area in September 2018 to store cocaine, heroin and cash, according to The Virigina Pilot. It also outlines several drug sales made over the next year in Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Norfolk and Virginia Beach, according to the Pilot.
  • According to court documents, Barba was parked in downtown Norfolk, Va. at approximately 11:05 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2018, when she was approached by law enforcement. A dog handler screened Barba's rental vehicle with a drug dog, which alerted on the vehicle, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office release.
  • The canine officer searched Barba's rental vehicle and discovered a closed shoebox in plain view on the front passenger floorboard. The officer opened the shoebox and discovered a plastic bag containing a large quantity of a white, rock-like substance, according to the release.
  • Barba subsequently admitted she had landed at Washington-Dulles at 4 p.m. on a flight from Los Angeles and that she rented a car there and drove to Norfolk, according to the release.
  • The substance seized from Barba's rental car was submitted to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Savannah Laboratory for forensic analysis, and a forensic scientist determined the substance to be fentanyl – a Schedule II controlled substance – with a total weight of 830.9 grams.
  • Barba was arrested and jailed in Norfolk, Va. on Oct. 11, 2018 and charged for what was initially reported as trying to sell 100 or more grams of heroin, according to the Norfolk Sheriff's Office. Read more: 'American Idol' Star From Point Pleasant Busted For Heroin: Cops

  • Barba pleaded guilty on Tuesday to possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office release. That's enough of the drug, many more times powerful than heroin, to kill 200,000 people. Barba faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life in prison when sentenced on November 21.
