USCGA Flotilla 16-07 Receives Proclamation Recognizing NSBW

Flotilla Will Receive other Proclamations in the Following Weeks

POINT PLEASANT, NJ – United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 16-07 was presented with a proclamation recognizing “National Safe Boating Week” from the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach Township Committee on Tuesday, April 17. The proclamation was presented to Flotilla 16-07 by Mayor Stephen D. Reid to a dozen members of the flotilla.

The proclamation reads, “

Whereas, the beautiful coastal areas of Point Pleasant Beach represent a popular recreational destination; and
Whereas, residents of Point Pleasant Beach and visitors by the thousands are drawn to its waters and beaches each year for boating and watercraft activities; and
Whereas, the boating environment has dangers that can be effectively managed through boating safety education, vessel/watercraft inspections and always wearing a lifejacket; and
Whereas, for reasons of public safety, an annual reminder of the joys and hazards associated with the boating and watercraft activity environment are appropriate at the commencement of the busy summer boating season; and
Whereas, Point Pleasant Beach is pleased to recognize the men and women of the New Jersey Coast Guard Auxiliary in their efforts to heighten the awareness of boating and watercraft safety through various public awareness activities.
Now, therefore be it resolved, that the Governing Body of the Borough of Public Pleasant Beach, does hereby, proclaim May 19-25, 2018 as National Boating Safety Week in the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach and urges all residents and visitors on our waters to enjoy themselves while taking appropriate measures to protect themselves and their children

Flotilla Commander Basil (Bill) Iwanyk said, “On behalf of the United State Coast Guard and the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, I thank the Pt. Pleasant Beach town council for recognizing the importance of safe recreational boating and watercraft activity, as well as honoring the continuing great work by the Auxiliary in promoting responsible boating and educating the public in safe boating practices”.

Flotilla 16-07 will also be presented proclamations by Wall Township Committee on Wednesday, April 25th and Seaside Heights Town Committee on Thursday, May 3rd.

National Safe Boating Week inspires boating safety awareness including wearing a life jacket while out on the water and other ways to prevent boating accidents, and loss of property or life.
