WATCH: Coast Guard Video Of Jet Skier Rescue In Manasquan Inlet

The video is taken from the Coast Guard helicopter during the rescue that occurred Sunday.

An unidentified man was rescued Sunday afternoon by a U.S. Coast Guard crew after he tried to ride a jet ski in Manasquan Inlet, according to reports.

In the Coast Guard video and other videos circulating on social media, Manasquan Inlet -- between Point Pleasant Beach and Manasquan -- is full of whitecaps as the inlet shows the impact of Hurricane Joaquin, sending wind and waves to the Jersey Shore despite its path well to the east.

A small craft warning remained in effect Sunday through 8 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a gale warning for waters further offshore. Wave heights inshore were expected to be 9 to 13 feet, with higher waves possible, according to the service’s Mount Holly office.

A news release from U.S. Coast Guard Station Atlantic City said the helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was flying over Manasquan Inlet while on a training flight when the aircrew’s rescue swimmer noticed a jet ski in the water with no one aboard.

The helicopter crew scanned the inlet and spotted a man in the water near the jetty. As they circled around to make an approach, the jet ski slammed into the rocks as the man was getting pushed toward the rocks.

The helicopter crew got into position and used a hoist cable to lower the rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer grabbed the man and they were hoisted out of the water and brought to a nearby beach where they were lowered.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet also responded to the incident, the news release said.

The administrator of the U.S. Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet Facebook page posted about the incident not long after the rescue:

“As a member I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of this great organization. The dangers and risk our Air and Station personnel must evaluate and mitigate to save lives never ceases to amaze me,” the page administrator wrote. “Unbelievable job by the Coast Guard Air crew.”

“To all who make their living on the sea and who recreation on the sea ... conditions on the ocean are still unfavorable. Please be safe!” the page administrator wrote.
