Watch the Progress: Point Pleasant Beach Fire Co. 2 Rescue Truck Under Construction

Pierce Manufacturing, which is building the vehicle, has been providing photo updates to the fire company

The rescue truck approved for purchase by the Point Pleasant Beach Council last December is taking shape.

Point Pleasant Beach Fire Company 2 has been posting photos of progress in the truck’s construction on its Facebook page. Construction of the $430,000 vehicle, which replaces a rescue truck that had become inoperable, by Pierce Manufacturing of Appleton, Wis., began this summer.

When it is delivered, it will allow the fire company to use the smaller truck for rescues and responses of a smaller scale, rather than rolling the massive ladder truck for every event, Kyle Grace, deputy emergency management operator, said in November when the truck purchase was first posed to the Point Pleasant Beach Council.

Ocean Fire Company 1 will receive a new pumper truck with a 50-foot teleboom in 2015. The purchase of that truck, for $712,000, was approved at the Sept. 2 meeting, and it will replace the 1995 E-One Cyclone II pumper truck that has reached the end of its useful life, Councilman Andy Cortes said after the Sept. 2 meeting.

The teleboom will allow rescuers to reach people on the second floor of homes that now are 30 feet or more off the ground as a result of the new FEMA requirements for raising structures, officials have said. That’s too high for regular ladders to reach, they said.
