POINT PLEASANT, NJ — The Point Pleasant branch of the Ocean County Library is closed until further notice after water damage was discovered in several parts of the building, library officials said Wednesday.

"After assessing the damage to the facility it was determined the branch would need to be closed to complete repairs," library officials said.

The damage was discovered when the library's staff arrived at work on Tuesday, library officials said.

"There was significant water damage leaking from somewhere in the attic," officials said.

They believe the water had most likely been leaking as far back as Saturday, when the branch was closed for the weekend, until the staff arrived.

For people who use the Point Pleasant library, items on hold there will be transferred to the Point Pleasant Beach branch at 710 McLean Ave. for pickup. Those who want items sent to a different branch can call 732-349-6200 to make the request.

All programs scheduled to be held there will be canceled until repairs are completed and the building reopens.

The book return drop will remain open at the Point Pleasant branch throughout the closure, officials said.

"Due dates for Chromebooks, hotspots, and Launchpads from the Point Pleasant Borough Branch will be adjusted to accommodate the temporary closure," library officials said.

Digital resources such as eBooks, audiobooks, research databases, and virtual programming remain available 24/7 through theoceancountylibrary.org, officials said.
