BLIZZARD UPDATE: 'Historic' Two-Day Snowstorm, Nor'easter, With 50-mph Winds, To Strike Northeast

Forecasters and authorities are now calling the snowstorm that will slam the northeast Monday a blizzard that could produce “historic” results, and dump more than two feet on from Virginia north to Maine.
The National Weather Service has issued a “blizzard warning” that will be in effect beginning Monday at 12 noon, and lasting through 6 p.m. Tuesday as the ”major” snowstorm is expected to batter coastal states for two days.

As many as 18 to 28 inches of snow is expected in South Jersey and the Jersey Shore, while 20 to 30 inches or more could fall in North Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds are expected to move from the north at speeds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Visibility will be one-quarter-mile or less at times. Temperatures will be in the lower 20s, according to the NWS.
The blizzard watch targets the greater New York City metropolitan area, and will include “heavy snow and blowing snow.”

“Extremely dangerous travel” is expected because of the heavy snowfall and strong winds, with whiteout conditions likely, according to the National Weather Service. Secondary and tertiary roads may become impassable.
Strong winds may bring down power lines and tree limbs, according to the NWS.

The Weather Channel says “Winter Storm Juno” will be a “major snowstorm” for New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania on Monday and Tuesday, with as much as a foot of snow falling in the area.
Snowfall rates of more than 2 inches per hour are possible during the peak of the storm, which would be Monday night into Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Storm Watch, saying ”one of the largest snow storms of the winter” may impact New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
While there is still uncertainty as to the track and ferocity of a developing nor’easter late Monday, there is little doubt that snow will affect travel Monday in much of the region.
Light snow should first fall between between 2 and 6 a.m. Monday and slow the morning commute, since most untreated pavements will become slippery.
There is potential for a foot or more of snow Monday night from northern New jersey northeastward into parts of New England, according to the National Weather Service.
Most of the severe weather will impact the region from Interstate 78 northward, including the Lehigh Valley, Poconos and the northern third of New Jersey, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavy snow will blow and drift, accumulating to 6 to 16 inches in some areas of North Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The National Weather Service has also issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for all of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, saying winter storm watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning.
