Record heat has prompted school districts to announce that they are taking the unusual step of closing school early.
The National Weather Service says a heat advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Friday for Mercer, Gloucester, Camden and northwest Burlington counties. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for the rest of the state as the temperature reaches 100 degrees.
