9/11 Memorial, Council Meeting: Princeton This Week

Here's what's happening in Princeton this week:

PRINCETON, NJ — Good morning, neighbors. Welcome to another edition of the Monday manual, where we tell you what's happening in town.

9/11 Memorial Ceremony

Princeton’s Annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony will be held on Monday, Sept. 11, 12 p.m., at the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad, located at 2 Mount Lucas Road.

The ceremony will start with the Police Honor Guard posting the colors, followed by the National Anthem. Rabbi David Dobov from Chabad of Princeton will lead the opening prayer. There will be brief remarks by former Fire Chief William D. Shields, followed by the placing of a floral arrangement by members of Community Options.

Bag Piper Doug Conners will perform Amazing Grace. Rev. Andrew Zakhari of the Stone Hill Church of Princeton will lead a closing prayer.

Additionally, a memorial book will be available for community members who would like to enter their thoughts of that day, or to add a name of someone that recently passed from a 9/11-related illness.

Construction Update

  • Sidewalk and curb construction will continue this week. Traffic will alternate in one lane through the construction area between Leigh Avenue and Green Street.
  • The Spring Street Garage concrete repairs will also continue. Up to 100 spaces will be unavailable for parking on the upper levels of the garage.
  • PSE&G’s contractor, Waters & Bugbee, will continue to work on gas main replacements along Dempsey Avenue, Walnut Avenue, Turner Court, and Moore Street. Crews will also be on Laurel Road and Mt. Lucas Road, and on Boudinot Street, Wescott Road, and Morven Place. Drivers need to be aware that some roads will be closed, and detours will be in place.
  • Snowden Lane will see alternating traffic during the week for the installation of storm sewers.
  • The Graduate Hotel construction continues. Chambers Street has no scheduled closures, but may be shut down for short periods of time for loading and unloading of construction materials and equipment.
  • Hutchinson Drive’s curb ramps are being reconstructed and the road will be milled and paved this. Farrand Road is scheduled to be milled and paved this week.
  • The NJDOT replacement of the Washington Road bridge over the D&R Canal is continuing and the road will continue to be closed through September and into October.
