PRINCETON, NJ — The Municipality of Princeton will mark Juneteenth with two days of events this week, beginning with a flag raising Thursday and continuing with a full afternoon and evening of free public programming Friday.
The observance opens Thursday, with a flag raising at noon at Monument Hall. Municipal offices will be closed Friday, June 19 in recognition of the federal holiday.
The commemoration continues Friday at Morven Museum & Garden's Stockton Education Center, where the Princeton Symphony Orchestra is presenting a free exhibit honoring Harriet Powers, described as a revolutionary quilter, from 2 to 5:30 p.m.
At 5:30 p.m., Dr. Rochelle Ellis will present a talk on jazz and the Civil Rights Movement, also free and open to the public.
The evening concludes with a concert, "Great Ladies of Jazz," at 7 p.m. at Morven's Performance Pavilion.
