PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Public Schools Superintendent Mike LaSusa provided an update on summer construction projects and district operations during the July 21 Board of Education meeting, saying work remains on schedule ahead of the new school year.
LaSusa said the district is running summer programming in several buildings while simultaneously working to clean classrooms and facilities, finalize hiring for the coming school year, and manage two concurrent sets of construction projects.
The first involves wrapping up site work and grading tied to the 2023 referendum at several elementary schools, LaSusa said, noting that both John Witherspoon Middle School's [JP] and Littlebrook Elementary School grounds are currently excavated.
The second involves larger-scale excavation and construction tied to 2025 projects at the middle school, Community Park, Littlebrook and, to a lesser extent, the high school, though LaSusa said that work isn't visible from the building's exterior.
"Our business office, with the lead of Mr. Harris, has been posting photographs, even some video footage of the construction that's taking place," LaSusa said.
He added that district staff have been visiting the buildings and working with the construction firm to ensure projects continue on schedule through the end of August, when schools are set to reopen.
LaSusa said that as the district moves into August, officials will increase communication with parents and families about expected changes to drop-off and pick-up procedures at a number of schools, changes the district previewed to families throughout the spring.
He said the district's operations committee will hold a full meeting Friday, where officials will receive updates from district professionals, including an assessment of preparations roughly four and a half weeks ahead of high school graduation.
"We'll continue to update everyone as we can on our website and at our meetings like this one," LaSusa said.
