Princeton Dedicates New Storm Rescue Truck To Fallen Volunteer

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad and the Princeton Fire Department dedicated a new High Water/Storm Rescue truck in memory of Michael Kenwood, a PFARS volunteer who died during a swiftwater rescue in Hurricane Irene 15 years ago.

Kenwood lost his life on Aug. 28, 2011, while responding to a call for help during the storm, according to PFARS. Members gathered at his memorial bench alongside his family, friends, and current and former squad members to remember him and place the new truck into service.

The vehicle, which will be operated jointly by PFARS and the Princeton Fire Department under Princeton Emergency Management, is dedicated to Kenwood's memory. A plaque beside his memorial bench states that his courage and selfless commitment continue to inspire volunteers to serve the community.

"Every time this vehicle rolls out into rising water, it will carry that commitment with it," PFARS said in a statement.
