Princeton Board Of Education Meets Tuesday. What To Expect

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton Board of Education is scheduled to hold a hearing on the superintendent's contract Tuesday, Sept. 22, and vote on whether to approve it.

The board meets at 5:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms A and B at 25 Valley Road. The meeting will be livestreamed, according to the agenda.

Superintendent contract

The agenda calls for a motion to enter the contract hearing, followed by the hearing itself, a separate period of public comment on the contract and a roll-call vote on a resolution to approve it. The agenda does not describe the contract's length or terms, and it does not say whether the resolution changes an existing agreement.

Michael LaSusa has served as superintendent since July 1, 2025. His existing five-year contract runs through June 30, 2030, with a salary of $300,900 for the 2026-27 school year, according to earlier Patch reporting. The board approved a revised version of that agreement in July 2025.

Calendars and reports

The superintendent's report includes the 2026-27 and 2027-28 district calendars, the annual Student Safety Data System report, and the 2025-26 reports on the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment and Dynamic Learning Maps alternate assessment results.

The board will also vote on an updated 2026-27 calendar. The resolution says it reflects adjustments to instructional days, professional development schedules and emergency closure make-up days. It does not list the specific changes. A vote on the 2027-28 calendar and on the 2027-28 budget development calendar is also on the agenda.

Building maintenance and spending

Several items involve maintenance at the high school and middle school:

• The board will vote on transferring up to $2 million from the district's NJ ARM account and up to $115,000 from its maintenance reserve to the operating account to fund required maintenance.

• It is asked to award Mack Industries a $112,473 contract for boiler tube replacement, power washing and refractory coating at the high school and middle school.

• CM Engineers, the district's engineer of record, would receive $48,825 to survey rooftop HVAC equipment at both schools.

• Nine construction payment applications, totaling about $2.66 million, are up for approval.

The board will also consider canceling out-of-district bus route NHA-1, which costs $70,288.20 a year, in its contract with Angel Transportation. The three remaining out-of-district routes would cost $223,834.44 for 2026-27.

Policies and other business

The board is scheduled to give second reading and final approval to 20 policies and regulations. They include policies on equity in school and classroom practices, physical restraint and seclusion of students with disabilities, curriculum, high school graduation and diplomas. Four regulations or policies would be abolished.

The board is also asked to approve the continuation of a research study by ETS Research Institute on students' scientific reasoning and a new study with Data Science for Everyone through the University of Chicago on data science education.

The board will vote on the routine items together, including personnel appointments, retirements and resignations, the August payroll and bills lists, and a July financial report.
