NEW JERSEY — Trick-or-treaters across New Jersey should get a dry, comfortable Halloween this year, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunny skies and mild temperatures are expected to close out the week, with highs near 70 on Thursday and near 74 on Friday, the warmest day of the stretch.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year. Skies are expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 67. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 46, so a light jacket over the costume may be a good idea once the sun goes down.
The next chance of rain doesn't arrive until Sunday night, when showers are possible, according to the forecast.
Daylight saving time also ends early Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m., when clocks fall back one hour.
Halloween 2026 looks pleasant, but it won't come close to the warmest on record. For decades, New Jersey's warmest Halloween was in 1946, with 82 degrees at Newark, 81 at Trenton and 83 near Atlantic City. On Halloween 2024, Newark hit 83 degrees, beating the 1946 record of 82.
New Jersey has also seen the other extreme. A pre-Halloween nor'easter in late October 2011 brought heavy snow to the region, and Newark set an October snowfall record with 5.2 inches.
