Instruments from a foundation loan program will be sold by appointment, with walk-ins welcome Saturday afternoon.

PRINCETON, NJ — If you've been thinking about buying a piano, Princeton High School has some for sale.

From Thursday through Saturday, the Princeton Public Schools music department is hosting a sale of pianos and string instruments at the Princeton High School Performing Arts Center, at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Walnut Lane.

The sale comes out of a partnership with the Rockley Family Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Through it, the district's music department was able to use many new acoustic pianos at no cost during the school year. Those pianos will be sold, along with instruments the foundation provided to other institutions and others it has made available, to keep the program going, according to the district.

The sale includes grand pianos, baby grand pianos, digital player grand pianos, upright pianos, digital pianos, violins, violas and cellos. Brands include Yamaha, C. Bechstein, Knabe, Roland and Italia Violins, along with a select group of restored Steinway & Sons pianos. Instruments range from starter to professional level.

Most of the instruments have been in use for less than a year, according to the announcement. They have been tuned and come with a five- to 10-year service contract. Delivery and no-interest financing are available on site.

Thursday through Saturday are set aside for a "private sale" by appointment, which gives buyers first pick and lower prices. To book a time, call or text 609-205-5186 or schedule online. Virtual appointments over Zoom are also available.

No appointment is needed for the final sale hours, 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

"In a time when creative solutions are needed to maintain a properly equipped music program, the continuation of this loan program is vital to us in our efforts to further education in the arts," the announcement says.
