Music Director James Litton to serve as guest clinician for Summer Music Camp

Renowned choral director Dr. James Litton will be guest artist for The American Boychoir School’s 2011 Summer Music Camp Albemarle for girls and boys.  Dr. Litton will be coaching choristers in the “Small Group Vocal Training Program” offered to campers ages 12-14.

James Litton is widely regarded as one of America’s most prominent choral conductors specializing in training of the young voice.  Now serving as Litton-Lodal Music Director Emeritus of The American Boychoir, he has earned a distinguished reputation as a specialist in children’s choral technique, as well as a conductor of many choral ensembles for all ages, reinforcing his standing as a respected scholar, dedicated teacher, and accomplished musician.  During his 16-year tenure with The American Boychoir, he conducted the choir in more than 2,000 concerts in 48 states and 12 countries as well as on more than 30 professional recordings and in special television programs and numerous commercial soundtracks.

Newly appointed Music Director of Music Camp Albemarle, Fred Meads, said, “For many years I’ve been inspired by the work of Dr. Litton.  I’ve attended boychoir concerts, festivals and workshops led by him and have always been impressed by his musical leadership and ideas.  His work with boychoirs is known worldwide, so I feel incredibly fortunate that Dr. Litton has accepted my invitation to join us at Camp Albemarle this summer.  He will serve as a guest artist working with a select group of singers in the Small Group Vocal Instruction Training Program as they prepare repertoire for the camp concert.  As the new Music Director of Camp Albemarle, I look forward to leading our campers’ this summer and I’m honored to have Dr. Litton working with us.” Fred Meads is the Director of Vocal Studies and Training Choir Director of The American Boychoir School.

Music Camp Albemarle and The American Boychoir Experience are summer programs of The American Boychoir School in Princeton NJ.  For the past 60 years, Music Camp Albemarle has provided a two-week opportunity for both girls and boys to experience performance through choral music with some of the most renowned conductors including Dr. Anton Armstrong, Conductor of the St. Olaf College Choir in Northfield, MN, and Paul Caldwell, Artistic Director of the Youth Choral Theater in Chicago, IL.  The American Boychoir Experience, under the leadership of Fernando Malvar-Ruiz, current Litton-Lodal  Music Director of The American Boychoir, now in its 3rd season, is an equally popular week-long intense study of vocal training and musicianship for boys between the ages of 8 to 12, giving them the opportunity to experience a day in the life of an American Boychoir student.
