Auditions For Princeton Youth Ballet Productions Set For Sept. 23

This season, the ballet will perform "The Nutcracker," "Carnival of the Animals" and "Graduation Ball."

PRINCETON, NJ — Princeton Youth Ballet will hold open auditions for its 2017-18 season on Sept. 23 at Princeton Dance and Theater Studio (PDT). The studio is located at Princeton Forrestal Village 116 Rockingham Row in Princeton.

This season, the ballet will perform “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 9 and 10. Offerings will also include a whimsical new production of "Carnival of the Animals," and a lively and comedic ballet especially adored by dancers, "Graduation Ball," on May 5 and 6.

Call times for young dancers (ages 7.5 - 19) at the Sept. 23 auditions are as follows:

  • 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Advanced pointe dancers and advanced boys 14 and up. Interested applicants in this group must attend a ballet class prior to the audition at 10:30 a.m.
  • 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.: Intermediate pointe dancers and intermediate boys ages 12 - 14.
  • 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Beginner pointe and pre-pointe dancers and beginner boys 10 and up.
  • 4:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Dancers ages 7.5 – 9, regardless of level.

Dancers and families interested in learning more about the ballet are invited to an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 16, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“One of our missions at Princeton Youth Ballet is to encourage a love and appreciation for classical ballet through inspired storytelling, magical productions, and uncompromising artistry,” Princeton Youth Ballet Artistic Director Risa Kaplowitz said. “Our productions give talented and well-trained young dancers the chance to perform in professional-quality productions.”

The ballet provides young dancers with training and positive experiences onstage and off. Dancers have the chance to dance in beautiful productions and gain stage experience while building their resume and building lasting friendships under the eye of excellent coaches, the ballet says.
