Billing Mistake to Affect Over 300 Princeton Residents: Report

A mistake by the Board of Assessors may be costly for Princeton residents.

More than 300 homeowners in Princeton will be affected by a mistake that saw some residents billed for a project that took place 10 years ago, Planet Princeton reports.

It was previously reported that 102 Princeton residents are being billed for sewer laterals that were surveyed, and in some cases replaced, on Harris Road, Hillside Road, Loomis Court, Oakland Street, Cuyler Road and Walnut Lane in 2004 and 2005.

At Monday night’s council meeting, it was revealed that another 100 residents in the Tyson Lane, Littlebrook Road, Abernathy Drive and Clover Lane area will receive proposed assessments for sewer lateral work that took place in 2008, and another 100 residents the Gallup Road, Westerly Road, Grover Avenue, Roper Road and Battle Road neighborhoods will received proposed assessments for work done from 2010-2012, according to the report. Residents in the Park Place neighborhood will be billed for sewer work that took place last year.

A general letter will go out explaining the assessments before the proposals are sent out, according to the report. Princeton Council will vote on the proposed assessments at the Oct. 12 council meeting, according to the report.

A mistake was made in sending out the bills, but the town’s attorney said sending the bills out 10 years later is legal. On Monday night, Princeton Board of Improvement Assessors, Administrator Marc Dashield said that board will take steps to ensure those mistakes are corrected in the future.
