Boy, 2, Dies, Mom Critical After Child Darts Into Hamilton Street

The mom tried to stop the boy when he ran into the street. They both were struck by a truck.

A 2-year-old boy has died after he and his mother were struck by a truck. His mother chased the child after he darted into the street, police said.

The boy, whose name has not been released, darted out between two cars that were parked on residential Lynwood Avenue, near Walnut Avenue in Hamilton Township, at 3:54 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

His mother, 37, tried to grab him, and she was struck by the truck as well, according to police. The woman, who also wasn't identified, was listed in critical condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Tuesday night.

James Glass, 58, of Hamilton, was driving a 2000 GMC box truck north on Lynwood Avenue near Walnut Avenue when he struck the 2-year-old and the woman, according to police.

Both were taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by ambulance where the 2-year-old died, according to police.

The truck stopped at the end of the block after the accident, according to police. Police are not saying yet if the driver was speeding.

The speed limit on the road is 25, and a sign and radar speed signs were just put up because neighbors say too many drivers are reckless there, according to police.
