This July, Sō Percussion's annual Summer Institute fills two weeks on the Princeton University campus — and spills out into town. From July 5–19, the Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SōSI) brings together emerging composers and percussionists from across the country for an intensive residency with the members of Sō Percussion and guest faculty. Throughout those two weeks, participants perform a series of concerts at venues across Princeton, all free and open to anyone who wants to come.

Escape the summer heat and step into the shady woods of Marquand Park for “Made in the Shade,” a fun-filled morning of nature-themed activities for children and families. Tucked under the canopy of one of Princeton’s most treasured parks, “Made in the Shade” invites children to experience the magic of trees and forest life through hands-on games, crafts, and creative play. Activities include Tree Bingo, storytime, play dough leaf prints and more.
Kids will receive a free coloring book that celebrates the diversity of trees in Marquand Park, as well as light snacks to enjoy in the shade. Whether they’re matching leaves in Bingo or listening to forest stories under the branches, children will leave with a deeper appreciation of the park’s living collection.
Come celebrate summer under the trees! This event is free and open to the public. Activities are best suited for children ages 3–10, but all are welcome. Marquand Park is located at 48 Lovers Lane, Princeton, NJ. Story &amp; Verse provides a warm and welcoming spotlight for both emerging and established artists in our Solley Theater, an intimate space in the heart of Downtown Princeton.
Join us as a performer:
<ul><li>Prepare a story, poem, or spoken word piece up to 5 minutes in length and (at least loosely) related to the theme. This month’s theme is “Turn Up the Heat“</li><li>Arrive by 6:45pm to add your name to the hat. No previous experience or pre-registration necessary.</li></ul>
Join our audience:
<ul><li>Take the elevator or stairs to the Solley Theater, located on the top floor of our <a href="https://artscouncilofprinceton.org/about/visit/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Paul Robeson Center for the Arts</a>.</li><li>Optional: participate from your seat with a&nbsp;Micro Story. Read the printed prompt based on the evening’s theme and respond with a super concise story (just a line or two!) that answers the question. Brass Rabbit will read your story at the mic, as time allows.</li><li>Find a seat and enjoy the performances. We kick off shortly after 7pm.</li></ul>
