Committee Recommends Altering Princeton University's Grading System
The committee recommends moving away from its current numerical grading policy.

A nine-member committee is recommending Princeton University remove numerical targets from its undergradute grading system, according to the University’s website.
University President Christopher L. Eisgruber appointed the committee last fall to review the grading policy put in place at the University in 2004.
The committee found that numerical targets “are too often misinterpreted as quotas” and that they “add a large element of stress to students’ lives” in a report submitted to the University this week.

The committee recommended numerical guidelines be replaced with grading standards developed and articulated by each department, and that the focus should shift to “quality of feedback.”
Eisgruber will ask the Faculty Committee on Examinations and Standing to review the report.
