Luke Cordonnier got to show off different skills this past week. As a result, he made his mother and the members of the Princeton High baseball team very happy.
On May 3, Cordonnier pitched Princeton to a 4-1 win over Ewing in the opening game of the Mercer County Tournament.
On May 8, Cordonnier was at work in the kitchen, cooking up a Mother's Day meal.

"He's a great cook," Debbie Cordonnier noted of the baked ziti dinner Luke made for her.
Chances are, Ewing High's baseball team probably wishes Cordonnier limited his activities to the kitchen. Cordonnier has already defeated Ewing twice this season.

Cordonnier tossed a one-hitter on Apr. 25 as Princeton defeated Ewing, 2-0. Will Greeburg and Nico Mercuro had the RBI for Princeton. Matt Hoffman and Cordonnier scored the runs.
"That win gave us a little more confidence going (into the game on May 3)," Cordonnier said. "We knew we could beat them because we already did it. At the same time, you can't be over-confident. When you do that, that's when you lose."
Cordonnier limited Ewing to just one run in five innings of work. Clay Alter then came on to pitch two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save.
"I usually go with a fastball, changeup and curveball," Cordonnier said. "I went heavy on the curveball in that game. I kept them on their front foot and produced a lot of ground balls."
Cordonnier also had a good game at the plate, connecting for a home run and two RBI. Matt Farinick and Hoffman added a hit and RBI. Ellis Bloom had a hit and two runs scored.
Princeton was defeated by Steinert, 10-0, in the second round of the Mercer County Tournament. The losses left Princeton at 2-13.
Princeton has been playing better lately. In addition to the wins over Ewing, Princeton also had tough losses to West Windsor South (4-3) and Princeton Day School (6-4 in nine innings).
Against West Windsor South on Apr. 27, Nico Mercuro and Christian Giles had two hits and a RBI each.
Against Princeton Day School on Apr. 30, Mercuro, Hoffman and Giles had two hits each.
"It's frustrating, but we know the wins will come," Cordonnier said. "We just have to keep our heads up and keep playing hard. We have four winnable games this week. We have winnable games the week after that. We're looking forward to some more wins."
Make that wins and baked ziti.
