Environmental Leader Asks For New Regulations In Princeton

Jim Waltman asked for the regulations to combat greater precipitation falling in the state.

PRINCETON, NJ — The executive director of the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association is asking Princeton officials to put in place new regulations to combat a changing climate that is bringing greater precipitation to the area, the Princeton Packet reports.

Among suggestions made by Jim Waltman at the Jan. 9 council meeting are reducing what is considered a “major” development, as well as creating a category for anything that adds 250 feet or more of impervious coverage, according to the report.

He pointed to state statistics that indicate annual precipitation in the state has increased by 5.5 inches per year, in both rain and snow, according to the report. He also said there’s been an increase in “extreme rainfall events.”
