Flood Watch Declared For Mercer County

A flood watch is in place across Mercer County starting late Monday and going through Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said.

According to forecasters, rain is expected to return late Monday evening. It could become moderate to heavy from Monday night into early Tuesday morning. Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected with higher amounts possible in some areas.

The ground remains wet and rivers and streams continue to run high after the heavy rain on Friday.

"Rainfall rates should diminish during the mid to late morning hours on Tuesday. However, there is a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon that could bring additional locally heavy rainfall," the NWS said in its Flood Watch statement.

The NWS predicts all precipitation should end by Tuesday evening.

"You should monitor the forecast over the coming days and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. If you live in an area that is prone to flooding, be prepared to take action if flooding develops," the NWS said.
