Free Haircuts Provided to Local Children

Hair Salons Collaborate to Make Sure Photo Day is Picture Perfect

Last week, just prior to Photo Day at Johnson Park Elementary School, two local hair salons collaborated to provide free haircuts to 34 students who are eligible for subsidized meals. Stylists from Pixie Salon in Pennington collaborated with B & B Hair Color Studio on Witherspoon Street to serve kids during after-school hours.

Volunteers escorted children between the Pannell Learning Center and the salon, and JP Media Specialist Dawn Henderson read “hair-themed” storybooks to the children as they awaited their turn. “You had to see the joy on the faces of our kids, some of whom had never had a professional haircut prior to this experience,” said Principal Bob Ginsberg. “Their smiles went from ear to ear (and beyond!) and their parents were so very appreciative,” he said.

Special thanks to the JP P.T.O., the Y.M.C.A., P.Y.A., school volunteers, parents, and family liaison Liliana Morenilla. Pictured above, left to right:
